Fast food was not really a big part of my life as a child. My family and I ate out once in a great while, mostly because of financial issues, but for the most part, we would eat all our meals at home, where they were usually cooked by my mom. On the rare occasions that we did chose to go get a bite to eat, it was usually at places like McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Church’s Chicken, Popeye’s, or Taco Bell. I remember my favorite thing to eat was chicken strips, or chicken nuggets. Any time we would go out, I would immediately ask for chicken nuggets. Sometimes, going to a fast food place was used a reward, or even as a celebration. Good grades, awards in school, a praise sent home from teachers in the form of phone calls or notes, birthdays, anniversaries, and a few other assorted holidays were reasons to go out to eat. Going out to eat always made me really excited. It was sort do a big deal for me, as I was young and it did not really happen often. I always just related going out to eat, even at a fast food place, as a good thing.

Fast food now is, unfortunately, a big part of my every day life. I eat at places like Del Taco, Popeye’s, Taco Bell, McDonalds, Subway, Carl’s Jr, Jack in the Box, Burger King, and other assorted fast food places much more often than I would like to admit. It’s so quick and simple, and I’m usually pretty lazy, so I’ll walk to the nearest fast food places and grab a bite to eat. I eat fast food at least a few times a week. It makes life easier on me with such a busy schedule, especially now that I’m juggling school and everything else. I am not exactly happy that I eat it so much, but with today’s fast paced world, it just sort of happens. But I’m getting better about it. I am trying to refrain from eating any fast food, and I have cut back tremendously, but I feel that it is still not enough. A diet of mostly fast food is not a healthy lifestyle choice and it is most definitely time for a change. Home cooked meals taste far more delicious anyways! My trying to avoid fast food is yet another fantastic reason for me to be taking culinary classes. All I need to work on now is my laziness.

  1. I completley understand with a busy schedule. I find that making a huge meal that we'll feed me a few times as left overs help keep me away from fast food.
